Right on the heels of Star Wars: Episode 8’s production commencement, the next big Marvel franchise has begun filming its newest movie.

“Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2”, the second movie in the “unusual superheroes” film as part of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, began principal photography at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. While the new release didn’t state the details of the story, it did say Vol. 2 will be “set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2″ and “continue the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.”

Speaking of Quill, the cast and the Guardians will return for the second film. Chris Pratt reprises his role as Star Lord, alongside Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Vin Diesel (Groot), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), and Michael Rooker (Yondu).

There will be new characters added as well, including Kurt Russell, who is rumored to play Star Lord’s dad.
