Matterhorn: Immortalized

This past summer, Matterhorn Mountain at Disneyland underwent some “plate tectonics” and had a huge refurbishment that took quite a few months to finish. With all an new paint job and bobsleds, the Matterhorn looked as if it opened just yesterday…with one exception.

As the Matterhorn really is the oldest steel tubular roller coaster in the world, Disneyland Resort President, George Kalogridis, made the decision to donate one of the old bobsleds to the National Roller Coaster Museum!

President Kalogridis’ full statement is below –

“We’re delighted to provide these pieces of disneyland Resort history to the National Roller Coaster Museum, an organization that celebrates our industry. The Matterhorn bobsled and Californian Screamin’ signage represent two of our most beloved attractions, from the first tubular steel-tracked roler coaster in the world to one of the longest and most thrilling.”

We send our congratulations to the Matterhorn and Mr. Yeti who still remains lurking inside the mountain.
