Minnie Mouse inspires high fashion during Shanghai Fashion Week

Minnie Mouse joined the world of high fashion Shanghai Fashion Week, inspiring a number of pieces created by four local designers.

Many of the designers recognized the iconic nature of Minnie Mouse’s look. Ji Cheng, recognized as China’s leading designer, says, “Minnie possesses traits that young women admire, and she also has an iconic fashion style. In my eyes, Minnie is like a close girlfriend. My brand advocates positive energy and having a zest for life, which matches the spirit of Minnie perfectly.”

Others commented on the way Minnie Mouse represents the modern woman: “I am inspired by life, love and fantasy. With Minnie as my muse, I wanted to create something powerful yet elegant for today’s modern woman,” says designer Makin Ma.

The collections, while obviously inspired by Mickey’s best gal (lots of reds and polka dots every where!) each take a unique perspective on Minnie’s iconic look. It’s not the first time Minnie Mouse has inspired collections of clothing, but it certainly is refreshing to see how different cultures take inspiration from this classic Disney character.

With Disney’s ever expanding influence, especially in China with the almost opened Disney Shanghai, it’s great to see that well-loved characters find a place in people’s hearts around the world. Looks like love for Disney will continue to transcend cultures (and inspire new fashion!)
