More Details On The Magical Map.

We’ve told you about the new show that will inherit the vacant Fantasyland Theater space in Disneyland a few months ago and now as we’re just a little less than 1 month away from “Mickey and the Magical Map” opening, Disney has begun to share more details on the show itself and what magic is in store for all of us. We’ll update this post as we get more information, but here’s what we know so far:

1) Music, of course, will play an intregral part of the new show and veteran Disney music producers Doug McIntyre and Bruce Healey (our friend who produced the iconic “Fantasmic!” music) had the task of conducting and arranging music for the new show. Take a look at the video above to see them record the music for the show with a full real orchestra!

The music selection will include your classic Disney songs from Mulan, Tangled, Jungle Book, etc. with some contemporary twists.

There will also be an original song that you’ll hear called “Journey to Imagination” composed by Adam Watts and Andy Dodd (“High School Musical”). The song is about “…letting go and believing in the world of dreams and imagination.”

2) Fantasyland Theater will be the show’s venue. The Theater hasn’t been used for a show since 2006, but now that there is a show, everything has been updated and revamped to make it one technically advanced theater.

Sound, lighting and technical equipment (like the multiple LED screens that take up the length of the stage see above) have been updated and added to immerse the 1,830 guests that can see a showing.

3) The show’s length is roughly 25 minutes with 5 showings taking place daily.

4) UPDATE 6/22 – here are more fun facts!

  • More than 900 hopefuls auditioned for the show, and the final company includes more than 50 dancers and singers.

  • The magical map is created by nearly 1 million pixels and more than 35,000 square inches of LED screen surface.

  • The six sections of the map are moved on wagons that weigh more than 9,000 pounds each.

  • The total weight of the scenery for the show is approximately 71,000 pounds.

  • Tiana’s showboat in the finale scene reaches 18 feet tall, stretches 11 feet wide and weighs nearly 1,200 pounds.

  • More than six miles of cable run between the lighting, show control, audio and video systems.
