Netflix is poaching top Disney animation talent to create new shows and films
While Disney begins to heavily invest in Disney+, its own streaming service to launch in the next few years, Netflix isn’t slowing down at being the best platform to date. They’re doing in part with help from former Disney employees now as well.
As reported by The Verge, Netflix has recruited animators and creatives from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar to begin creating their own original animated content. Among the notable recruits are Disney Legend Glen Keane (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast), who is creating an animated series called “Trash Truck” due out in 2020, where a kid with an overactive imagination has a trash truck as a best friend.
The streaming service believes that animation is key to their future success as shown in how much money and resources are pouring into the development and release of new content over the next few years. How it will compete with Disney has yet to be seen, but it already says a lot that they are interested in the premier storytelling talent that comes from the Mouse House.
