Piloting The Highway In The Sky
It’s often called the “highway in the sky” and has been called such thing since its unveiling 55 years ago at Disneyland Park. The Disneyland Monorail system is still the best and fastest way to travel around the large Anaheim Resort. With two convenient stops located inside Tomorrowland and the Downtown Disney District, the 4 monorails that currently ride the “highway” give guests an easy and convenient way to enter and exit the Magic Kingdom…with awesome views!
Like anyone who uses a highway though, responsibility for safe travel are the drivers and for the monorail, the driver equivalent is the pilot. Sure, he or she doesn’t have to steer and say in the lanes, but the job still requires good judgement and even the unordinary job of making sure your passengers are entertained! Think you have what it takes to be a monorail pilot?
Take a look at the video above and get to know a real Disneyland monorail pilot who knows the stretch of highway like no other. Mike Gibson has piloted monorails for 20 years and he’s inviting you to step into the pilot’s cabin to see what it’s like to pilot one of these magical machines!

UPDATE 6/16: Take a behind-the-scenes look inside the Monorail Roundhouse, the place where the monorails are maintained and stored when not in use, in the video below!
