Pixar Pier is just enough to hold you over until Galaxy’s Edge

Pixar Pier is open to the public as of today after two days of media and VIP guest previews. While we were not included in the opening festivities, we certainly got to see it all through the thousands of social media posts that came from the previews.

As is Disneyland’s PR strategy, it was mostly invited influencers and bloggers saying that it was “amazing” and “totally an improvement” from Paradise Pier. While we can’t definitively share our thoughts until seeing it for ourselves in the next few days, we can give you our first impression based on what was shared – it’s just enough.

Just enough for what an overlay of an existing area at a theme park is designed to do.

Just enough for Imagineering to be proud of the work they did.

Just enough to get guests of all ages saying good things.

Just enough for people to immediately sharing how aesthetically pleasing it is.

Just enough to do enough within a constrained budget and construction timeline.

Just enough variety in theme park street food, but packaged differently.

Just enough to keep lobster nachos.

Just enough to sell tons of branded Pixar merchandise.

Just enough to sell some of the $299 tickets to be among the first to experience a half-completed area.

Just enough to connect a new Pixar movie to a theme park to drive new business.

Just enough to keep Disney purists at bay. Sort of.

Just enough to drive inbound tourists to come and pay up when passholders won’t.

…but most importantly…

Just enough to hold us all over for the grand opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge next summer.
