Pixar’s 10 Most Unforgettable Shorts

Pixar’s creative movies never disappoint, and neither do their incredible shorts. From the heartwarming storylines to the beautiful animation the quality of work in these pieces are just as amazing as the feature films that are seen before or after them. Now it’s time for these short masterpieces to get their recognition. Without further ado, we bring you the 10 most unforgettable Pixar shorts!

10. For The Birds

This short goes at number 10 on the list because of its important message: being a bully does have its price! The storyline focuses on a group of birds being mean to another bird who is a little lankier and different. Let’s just say that those birds get what is coming to them!

9. Geri’s Game

Some may say that Geri is a senile old man but I say he is just a competitive winner. He will do whatever it takes to win, even against himself! I would pay good money to see an old man play himself in chess, and be as dynamic and hilarious as Geri and his alter ego.

8. Boundin

This short features a wise jackalope who teaches a down-on-his luck sheep to go with the flow. The sheep learns to rebound through the tough times, and just keep boundin’ each year after he gets his coach shaved off. Learning to accept the bad things in life, and keep going with a smile on your face is a great lesson that many people need to remember every now and again.

7. Day and Night

This short is so different and creative with its use of 2D and 3D animation. The two main characters are Day and Night. Within each outline of the character the viewer sees different scenarios that you would typically see in either day or night. Their friendship blossoms before our eyes as the two go from disliking and competing with one another to being amazed and loving what the other one has to offer. Not only does this short have a great soundtrack, but it also reminds us of all the incredible things that we do throughout the day and night.

6. Lifted

How did you think aliens abduct people? It is much more difficult then you may think! In this short it looks like a young alien is doing his abducting test much like how we’d have driving test to get our license. We all have those times where we get nervous and forget how to do things, but this alien’s frustration gets him into a big pickle. This short is clever, funny, and everything I love about Pixar shorts.

5. Partly Cloudy

This short is the most adorable of them all. It is filled with clouds, cute babies, and storks. This heartwarming tale tells the story of a stork who gets partnered with a gray cloud who only creates the most dangerous baby animals. From getting electrocuted to being stung each delivery causes this poor stork physical pain! This short overloads your senses with cuteness and babies. That’s why it is going as number 5 on the list!

4. Presto

Speaking of adorable, check out this hungry rabbit! All he wants is his carrot, but the magician is too busy with his performance to feed him. This little rascal not only refuses to perform, but accidently creates the magic show of a lifetime through hilarious pranks on his master. The crowd can’t get enough of the magician’s “act” and neither could I. This short is simply magical from beginning to end.

3. Lava

We now switch gears to a more romantic scene with a volcano waiting for someone to lava. There is love all around this lonely volcano for years and years, and he never gives up hope that one day he will find “the one.” As the years pass another volcano is forming on the ocean floor hearing the volcano’s heartfelt song.  This beautiful love story illustrates that there is somebody out there for everyone, and sometimes you just have to wait for that right person.

2. Dug’s Special Mission

Dug is one of my favorite Pixar characters of all time so he has to go pretty high on the list. This short shows what happens right before he meets his new owners, Carl and Russell. He is still being bossed around by his dog pack: Alpha, Gamma, and Omega who want him to simply stay out of the way, but somehow Dug always seems to get into trouble. Dug’s cluelessness throughout the short is hilarious, but also shows that he just wants to help his friends on his birthday. His wish is finally granted when he meets Carl and Russell who include Dug in their little family.

1. Jack-Jack Attack

I was always curious to find out what Jack-Jack was up to after hearing Kari’s messages at the end of The Incredibles. It turns out that baby Incredible was a little too much to handle for a know-it-all Kari, even with all of her babysitting training! As the family believes that he is just a normal human, Jack-Jack’s powers finally kick in while they are away fighting evil. Kari’s priceless reactions to Jack-Jack’s superpowers and her constant talking makes this short incredible in every way. Who else can’t wait for The Incredibles 2 coming out in 2019?

Pixar are masters of creating magical shorts that stick in our brains, sometimes even longer than the actual movies that they accompany. Each one is better than the last, and I always wonder what the next Pixar short will be. Just like Walt Disney these people let their imagination and creativity make these ingenious shorts that have been entertaining us for years.
