Spooks and special guests joined Danny Elfman at The Nightmare Before Christmas concert

The Pumpkin King ruled the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles this Halloween! Legendary composer Danny Elfman sang the night away along with The Nightmare Before Christmas film in its entirety.

Elfman embodied his original role as Jack Skellington wowing the audience with “Jack’s Lament” and “Poor Jack”. The Bowl was decorated with giant sized inflatable spiders and pumpkins to recreate Halloweentown and Candy bags were handed to guests at arrival to partake in some trick-or-treating around the venue. A costume contest was also in full effect as attendees dressed to Tim Burton perfection, personifying Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and Corpse Brides. But who knew that the audience was in for an array of surprises? Special guests included Catherine O’Hara (voice of Sally and Shock), Paul Reubens (voice of Lock), and Ken Page (voice of Oogie Boogie).

You’re jokin, you’re jokin, I can’t believe my eyes! Ken Page was the first surprise of the night, stepping out on stage for a live execution of “Oogie Boogie’s Song”. And let me tell you, his frightening voice was as spooky live as it is in the film.

Catherine O’Hara joined Elfman for a romantic duet of “Jack and Sally’s Song”. Cheers traveled across the rows of people when O’Hara stepped onto the stage.

As an encore, Paul Reubens, yes Pee Wee Herman himself, joined the two for an original performance of “Kidnap The Sandy Claws”. Lock, Shock, and Barrell were reunited at last!

The highlight of the night however, was no doubt the second encore of Oingo Boingo bandmate Steve Bartek joining Elfman onstage for a performance of “Dead Man’s Party”. The two have not performed the song in exactly 20 years to the day of Halloween.

For those of you who attended the event, please share your favorite moment of the night!
