The Big Easy Prom Dinner [Prom at the Disneyland Resort]

Our last story in our series about how to enjoy a prom experience at the Disneyland Resort takes inspiration from another important element from any prom: dining.

For those who are still looking to attend their actual prom dances but are looking for a place to eat, we recommend visiting the Downtown Disney District and our friends at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen. There, you can get a “Big Easy” meal complete with big portions and quality service that’ll make your job of enjoying time with your date easy indeed!

DisneyExaminer writer Lance Cruzado had the privilege of trying the Jazz Kitchen’s special prom menu recently and here’s what he thought about it!

The Jazz Kitchen’s prom menu is actually an experience that you can only get when you decide to dine there. It all begins with custom menus with you and your date’s names that greet you on a perfectly placed linen covered table that’ll have a view! Once you’re seated, a gracious waiter will take care of the rest…including bringing you your meal.

The prom menu itself is a pre-fixe menu that includes an appetizer, a choice of entrée, and a dessert for two people. Here’s what we thought about the food!

The French Quarter Salad: Mixed Greens with a Steen’s cider vinaigrette, candied pecans, and cherry tomatoes. This dish, though simple, mixes all of these ingredients into a perfectly subtle blend in such a way that prepares your taste buds for more tastes that’ll come.

Pasta Jambalaya: A twist on a New Orleans favorite – Gulf Shrimp, Andouille sausage and chicken, tossed with spinach fettuccine and Creole seasonings. We chose this entrée over the chicken simply by choice, and it was a great choice at that! This dish became the main event amongst the three courses. The spices this plate delivered were some that I will never forget, and though spicy, the spinach fettuccine could still be tasted, leading to a heavenly aroma and blend. And not only did the sauce prove to be amazing, the shrimp, sausage, and chicken combination added on the experience, all great meats to have, and having it all mixed into one dish just had me fall in love.

Beignets: A New Orleans Classic! French donuts deep-fried and topped with powdered sugar. At that point in my life, I had never tried a ‘beignet’, so reading this description didn’t pique my interests. I mean, it seemed like just a doughnut with sugar on it. But I wrong. As the plate arrived, my mouth watered. They looked like how I had pictured them in my head, but the SMELL was something else. TASTING it, though, became a memorable experience for me for as I bit into it, my mouth rejoiced. The warmth of the bun hugged my lips while the moistness of the insides filled my mouth. A symphony of flavors played in my mouth, and I was happy.

But the experience didn’t stop at the food! Read more about Lance and Josephine’s prom dining experience by clicking HERE.
