The “Black Panther” in-home release has things you should know

Marvel’s “Black Panther” is still playing in a lot of movie theaters still, but that hasn’t stopped Marvel from already moving the global hit to its in-home release for people to own.

As with all Blu-ray and digital HD copies of the movie, it includes a variety of bonus features and behind-the-scenes featurettes that give fans a deeper look into the making of the film. One of those things included in the in-home release are things that might clarify a few things for you.

Through the deleted scenes, we find out with narration from director and writer Ryan Coogler that Erik Killmonger’s (Michael B. Jordan) mom had found a tragic end and might have led to his violent behavior against T’Challa. According to Coogler, “She (Killmonger’s mom/N’jobu’s wife) was imprisoned [somewhere in Oakland where they live].”

Cooler continued, “The idea was that when you see those guys (N’jobu and T’Chaka) talking over that paperwork in the beginning of the film, they’re trying to figure out a way to break her out (of jail). The idea is that they never got her out and she passed away in prison, so Killmonger didn’t come up with a mom either.”

There are other deleted scenes included in the in-home release that also clarify some holes that weren’t fully developed in the final cut, including the romance between Okoye (Danai Gurira) and W’Kabi (Daniel Kaluuya).

All this on top of the amazing behind-the-scenes featurettes that detail on-set “gag reel” between the cast and the making of the detailed sets and costumes are enough reason why you should probably pick up a copy of the movie today.

Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” is available on Blu-ray on Tuesday, May 15. It’s available now on Digital HD.
