The cast and creatives of “Loki” aren’t wasting any time to continue the MCU

Marvel Studios seems to keep churning out new series by the month! The first episode of “Loki”, their newest series, debuted its pilot episode this past week, and the cast and creatives gathered for a virtual press conference to chat about the making of the show featuring everyone’s favorite Marvel “villain.”

“But he’s actually not that, or at least entirely,” said Tom Hiddleston, who has played the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and continues in his new TV role. “He’s bit of a misunderstood villain, and that’s what this series hopes to do – understand him.”

The idea of the series came during “Avengers: Endgame,” (or two years ago) said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, because a lot of his favorite feedback that came from the culmination movie was what happened to Loki (after he disappeared with the Tessaract when the Avengers were trying to find all of the Infinity Stones again)?

To answer that question and to dive deeper into Loki’s character, series director Kate Herron and head writer Michael Waldron needed to build another world and introduce new characters.

Things like the Time Variance Authority (TVA), which formalizes the concept of the multiverse in the MCU, is taken directly from the comics, whereas new characters like TVA agent Mobius, played by Owen Wilson, is entirely dreamt up to push the story forward.

“It’s exciting to be a part of the MCU,” said Wilson. “The secrecy surrounding all this, the characters, the worlds… I didn’t understand it all until now.”

And there’s a lot to understand that will come with “time” and those new weekly episodes of the limited six-episode series – which will ultimately lead into repercussions in the Phase Four MCU films that will continue with “Black Widow” this July.

Until then, Hiddleston is just happy that he gets to keep working. “The reason I am allowed to continue to play him is because people care about him,” he continued. “He represents so much and people connect to all that mischief, misunderstanding, and even comedic nature he embodies.”

In other words, the “Loki” series is just like Loki – filled with “glorious purpose.”

Marvel Studios’ “Loki” will debut new episodes every Wednesday exclusively on Disney+.
