The cast and filmmakers of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania dish Phase 5, Kang, and family (and their secrets)

For Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, actor Paul Rudd felt like it was an opportunity to do more of the same with his character, but introduce something that would shake things up.

“He’s still just a dad and a normal person, which is why I think people love him so much,” said Rudd during the film’s virtual press conference. “He’s also still super funny in this one and that’s important, too.”

But the stakes in this film are much greater and not to be laughed at according to the trailers for the film that have been released. That is greatly due to our introduction of Kang to the MCU, whom we first met through the Disney+ series, Loki.

Actor Jonathan Majors who plays this newest Marvel Studios villain is taking his role very seriously because Kang is serious about getting what he wants. “He’s a nexus villain who wants to get out of a sticky situation. Can you imagine how insane that is for everyone?” he said.

As for what he’s after remains a mystery that can only be found out by watching the film. However, it’s deeply tied to the van Dyne family. Said Michelle Pfeiffer who plays Janet van Dyne (Hank Pym’s wife), “I do hold secrets both as Janet and in real life. Secrets can be good and can be troubling to the one who holds them and the people they love.”

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios chief, added that this marks the beginning of Phase 5 in the MCU, which means the film acts more of like an introductory film to what is to come. “Treat it like a prologue of sorts. The ending is only the beginning as they say,” he said.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Qu-ANT-uMAN-ia” is now in theaters and coming soon to Disney+.
