The first trailer for Disney’s “Moana” points back to other classic Disney films

After months and months of waiting, we’ve finally gotten to see more of Moana in a trailer featuring Maui, voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The trailer also features more scenes of Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) herself, looking very adventurous (and skeptical, in one scene) as the latest Disney heroine.

This long awaited sneak-peek into the world of Moana links it back to earlier Disney films. The opening, for example, looks very much like the muses’ storytelling scenes from Hercules, also created by Ron Clements and John Musker. Maui’s transformation also points to the fact that this film also retains classic Disney magic elements. Unlike older Disney films, however, Moana will be the first to feature a Pacific Island Disney princess.

Moana comes out in theaters on November 23, 2016.
