The “Freaky Friday” musical is getting its own World Premiere Studio Recording

You might know Freaky Friday from its 2003 film version starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, but did you know that this book-turned-movie is also a musical?

The Freaky Friday musical premiered in Arlington, VA in October of this year to much acclaim: Variety says it has “timeless appeal” and The Washington Post calls it “well executed.”

There are a few differences between the 2003 film and this musical version – the switch is made not by fortune cookies, but by magical hourglasses, for example – but of course the most notable change is the addition of musical numbers. These pieces are written by Tom Kitt (music) and Brian Yorkey (lyrics), famous for their work on Broadway shows Next to Normal and If/Then. Freaky Friday joins their repertoire of musical hits as Disney releases the World Premiere Studio Recording of the show in March of next year.

You can reserve your copy of the recording now, and can even catch the Freaky Friday musical live at the La Jolla Theaterthe Cleveland Playhouse, and Houston’s Alley Theater in 2017.
