The short that will be in front of Disney’s “Moana” sounds like Pixar’s “Inside Out”

Earlier today, the Walt Disney Animation Studios announced that their newest short, but some people who read the quick description of it might liken it to something familiar in the Disney world.

Inner Workings will tell the story of “an internal struggle between man’s pragmatic, logical side and his free-spirited, adventurous half.” Sound familiar?

To most people, the synopsis of the animated short sounds very much like the premise to Pixar’s “Inside Out”, where you have a man instead of a little girl, as well as two emotionally, internally driven sides to him. While there were no images of the short shared with the announcement aside from the logo, we’re expecting something different.

Disney story artist Leo Matsuda and producer Sean Lurie, who most recently worked on Big Hero 6, are leading the charge on the short. That 2014 film showcased improvements and new technology that pushed the limits of animation to make an even more immersive and visually impressive world. We’re expecting that those limits will be pushed even further in Inner Workings as Disney uses shorts to experiment with these new animation techniques to include on their future full-length features.

We’ll get to see if that is the case when the short debuts in front of Disney’s Moana this November.
