Top 5 Game Changers of 2015

From live action adaptations to cartoons and even films based on true stories Disney has released a variety of movies this year. This year was filled with some memorable movies that really stood out! Some received positive reviews and were successful at the box office while others were less successful. Here are our top 5 game changers of 2015:

5) McFarland, USA– The Inspirational Game Changer

Rolling Stone said, “McFarland, USA gives us a vital sense of hardscrabble lives and dreams of glory deferred. All cheers here are fully earned.” The film successfully executes a sports underdog story, but what makes it a game changer is the casting and director.

4) Tomorrowland- The Marketing Game Changer

The inclusion of Tomorrowland may be surprising to most people given that it didn’t do well at the box office. However, the marketing for the original film invited potential viewers to “Stop Plus Ultra” at Wonder Con. Information leading fans on a scavenger hunt appeared on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and its’ own website. While many may not have embarked on the journey to discover more, those who did enjoyed the film more.

3) Sanjay’s Super Team– The Diversity Game Changer

“Sanjay’s Super Team” is a game changer because it adds another dimension to Pixar: diversity. The short allows many Americans of different cultural backgrounds to relate to a character discovering his identity as a second-generation immigrant.

2) Inside Out– The Unexpected Game Changer

According to Variety,“Inside Out is a critical and commercial triumph on a scale few films match.” If you’ve seen the film, you can understand why. It’s one of those film that even as an adult you have to tell others about it (even drag them to the theater at 10 p.m. like I did when I found out my friends hadn’t seen the movie). While the film appeals to children, the depth of emotions also resonate with adults.

1) Star Wars: The Force Awakens– The Cultural Phenomenon

It should come as no surprise to find the newest installment of Star Wars as #1. Whether you are a fan of Star Wars or not, it is undeniable that The Force Awakens is a cultural phenomenon. It has broken records with an estimated $528 million global box office, which doesn’t include figures from China. For the first time in history, The Walt Disney Studios made $5 billion, thanks to films like Star WarsThe Force Awakens, which has grossed $1.09 billion globally.

Other films and shorts that Disney released in 2015 include: The Good Dinosaur, Ant-Man, CinderellaFrozen Fever, and Avengers: Age of Ultron
