Yo-Ho: Did You Know?

The classic Disneyland attraction Pirates Of The Caribbean turned 45 years old young on Sunday. Throughout those 45 years, much has been discovered and yet there is still much to be found, mateys! Here are some fun facts of treasure that ye might not have known…

  1. This was the last attraction that Walt Disney supervised before he passed away.

  2. The money used to construct the ride cost the same as when the United States bought New Orleans in the Louisiana Purchase back in 1803, which was about 15 million dollars.

  3. The attraction was originally supposed to be a New Orleans-style store, complete with a wax museum in the basement where the grotto scene is now located.

  4. Before the opening of the attraction, the Fire Chief of the Anaheim at the time asked that the attraction be shut down due to the fact that the fire scene in the ride looked so real.

A toast to the pirates in all of us!
