Here are all the confirmed 2017 Disney movies (and what we know about them)
2016 was an incredible year for Disney movies, and 2017 looks like it may be even better! With everything from live action adaptations to sequels to new, original ideas, this new year has a slew of movies that are sure to be a hit.
Beauty and the Beast – March 17, 2017
“Beauty and the Beast” is planned to be Disney’s first film of 2017, and we already know a lot about it: Belle will have a new backstory, new songs have been written, and many more images (and fun facts!) have already been released from the film.
Born in China – April 21, 2017
As in many Disneynature films, “Born in China” will be connecting its human viewers with its animal characters through story lines, in this case centering on three families of different animals: pandas, golden monkeys, and snow leopards. We also know the movie will be narrated by John Krasinski! The film was already released in China in 2016, but will be released in the U.S. near Earth Day.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – May 26, 2017
The teaser trailer for this film reveals how its main conflict takes place between Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem). William Henry Turner III (Brenton Thwaites), the son of Will Turner and a key character in the film, also makes an appearance. Little else is known, but according to IMDB, Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush will also reprise their roles as Will Turner and Hector Barbossa.
Cars 3 – June 16, 2017
“Cars 3” will reveal what life will be like for Lightning McQueen as he becomes a veteran racer. He’ll meet a new challenger, Jackson Storm, and a new Hispanic female race car named Cruz Ramirez who helps McQueen become an even better racer. The teaser trailer implies that this will be a particularly intense addition to the “Cars” trilogy!
Coco – November 22, 2017
We already know that Pixar’s new movie “Coco” will center on music, family, and Latin culture, specifically the holiday Dia de los Muertos. The main character, Miguel, a passionate guitarist, must visit the Land of the Dead in order to uncover his family’s past and restore their relationship with music.
The all-Latino cast, including Gael García Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Renée Victor, and newcomer Anthony Gonzalez, is also confirmed to sing in the film, making this movie (obviously) a musical!
Untitled Disney live-action fairy tale film – December 22, 2017
According to Deadline.com, we’ll be seeing another classic cartoon join the live-action ranks of movies like Maleficent and Cinderella at the end of 2017. It’s anyone’s guess what it’ll be!
