Technology is really bring entertainment to a whole new degree of “cool”. Virtual reality is beginning to take off and that also means that new, immersive content must be created.
You can bet that Disney understands that need and has already begun to make some very cool content for VR users to consume. Just this past week, Disney released a new video that delivers that new degree of “cool” with a little touch of Disney magic. It’s a 360 degree video of the opening scene of Disney’s musical production of “The Lion King”!
Utilizing multiple cameras and sophisticated software, the video is literally a view of the entire Circle of Life as it comes to life on stage every night on Broadway and around the world in its other productions. One of my favorite moments in watching the video is to see Rafiki call out to the other animals to wake and then “turn” the video to point toward those other animals.
While it might be disorienting to watch without a VR headset or within Google Chrome (where you can control your point of view), it’s just very awesome that something like this could be achieved.
You can expect even more immersive videos like this to be released by Disney in the near future. So if you aren’t too into the new realities that the circle of (tech) life has brought us, now might be a good time jump head in.
