Earlier this year we found our new Han Solo in Alden Ehrenreich, and now Donald Glover will officially be joining him in the still untitled Star Wars spinoff as Lando Calrissian.
This new movie will show Han and Lando’s lives before the events of The Empire Strikes Back – including how a young Han Solo met Chewbacca. Little else is known about the plot of the film, but it will definitely involve these two friends and heroes in their younger years.
Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller affirmed their enthusiasm towards having Glover on the team to the official Star Wars blog. “We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” they said. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
Glover is known for his FX series Atlanta, as well as for starring in the show Community and for his own Grammy-nominated album Because the Internet, created under the name Childish Gambino.
See Glover bring Lando back to life in this new Star Wars film, set to release in 2018.
