Here is all the Marvel news that came from San Diego Comic-Con 2017

San Diego, California once again welcomed geeks, nerds, and pop culture fans to the city for the 47th annual Comic-Con International convention this past weekend. You can bet that there were Disney fans who attended the D23 Expo just a few days prior and made the trek south to be a part of another busy con (like us)!

We all had good reason to go, with Disney, ABC, Lucasfilm, and Marvel once again having a big presence on the show floor with photo ops and presentations.

But once again, Marvel took the top spot so far as the buzz generating goes. From new TV shows to feature films, the Disney-owned entertainment company made sure that it gave their most loyal fans what they wanted.

It all started on Thursday night with the debut of new footage and a trailer for the upcoming Marvel Television/IMAX series called “Inhumans.” While it was originally going to be a feature film as part of the Marvel Studios’ cinematic universe (MCU), the new TV show will document a lesser known Marvel comic and the supernatural heroes in it.

Marvel Television continued the excitement with their first ever Hall H panel to showcase their new Netflix TV series called “The Defenders.” After 3 years of new Marvel character set up each with their own season(s) of shows on the streaming giant, they finally come together this fall in an Avengers-sized series. Attendees got to see the entire first episode.

While Marvel’s TV shows certainly left an impression, it wasn’t until Saturday night when Marvel Studios took over Hall H that fans really began to feel the power of Marvel’s storytelling. At the presentation, studio president Kevin Feige took the stage with the cast and crew of two upcoming films, “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Black Panther,” to share the first footage and news from the forthcoming MCU movies. While no new footage or trailers were shared from “Black Panther,” a new trailer did drop for “Thor: Ragnarok” showing Hulk speaking for the first time.

At the end of the 2+ hour presentation, a surprise appearance by Joe Russo, a co-director on “Avengers: Infinity War” with his brother Anthony, brought the house down again by showing the trailer for the next Avengers film. While it was the same footage that was shared at the D23 Expo the week prior, fans equally went insane. Marvel has yet to release the trailer publicly.

However, Marvel’s visual development head, Ryan Meinerding, who was at the con revealed a poster set featuring the characters who will be in “Infinity War.” Fans will notice that Captain America has grown a beard and the first look at teenage Groot. The film releases in May 2018.
