To conclude Asian Pacific American Heritage Month we transition into June and the exciting grand opening of Shanghai Disneyland! We have already shared some details about the park and will continue to as we find out more. Until then, let’s take a look at how Disney Asia shares Disney with their audiences.
One of Disney Channel Asia’s current marketing campaign involves creating a free printable calendar featuring celebrities from various Southeast Asian countries. The celebrities participate in a photo shoot dressed as a Disney character and are also filmed for behind-the-shoot interviews. As the photos/videos are shared through the stars social media, so is Disney Channel Asia’s ability to advertise to various Asian countries.
In the 2015 calendar, Disney Channel Asia selected 12 Southeast Asian celebrities to portray Disney Princesses and revealed them daily on Facebook as #12DaysOfPrincess.
All 12 stars were chosen from the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Four of the stars Daiyan Trisha, Proud Oranicha, Chilla Kiana, and Sarah Geronimo also sing their version of Disney’s “The Glow” for #12DaysofPrincess. Sarah Geronimo sings the song in English while the others sing in their countries language resulting in a wonderful rendition for everyone to enjoy.
In the 2016 Calendar edition, 14 Southeast Asians celebrities are selected to portray Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars characters. Exclusively on the Disney Channel Asia website features 22 short interviews from the stars sharing their Disney Side.
All 14 stars were chosen from the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia.
Take a look at the shadows behind the stars for a hint of who they are portraying! Photos are taken by Filipino photographer Mark Nicdao.
By Disney Channel Asia diversifying their models with different Southeast Asian celebrities not only is Disney able to appeal to multiple Asian countries but also Asian-Americans in the United States. The audience is able to keep up with the celebrities on their social medias and enjoy exclusives from their favorite stars provided by Disney.
Even though we are almost halfway through the year the free printable Disney Channel Asia calendar can help the audience keep track of all the shows and movies to watch on Disney Channel Asia! The calendar would also be useful to keep track of all the Disney throwback movies playing this summer.
We will continue to look at how Disney Asia will continue marketing to Asian audiences especially with the grand opening in Shanghai Disneyland in just a few weeks!
