Late this evening, news got out revealing that newcomer Alden Ehrenreich will play a young Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars spinoff film. There was a shortlist of actors that was compiled by Disney after screen tests back in January, but Ehrenreich was not one of them.
Sources say that his screen tests and performance for the directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller from “The LEGO Movie”, solidified their decision to officially offer the role to him.
If you’re like most people, you might not know who Ehrenreich and that’s because he hasn’t landed any large roles in the past. He was most recently seen in the Coen Brothers film “Hail, Caesar!”, as well as Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine”.
Ehrenreich is still in negotiation to seal the deal on the role, but should he accept, he has a lot to prove. The story for the film will share the life events of a young Han Solo and how his relationship with Chewbacca formed. The pure fact that he’ll be playing such an iconic role previously held by an equally iconic Harrison Ford is certainly a lot of pressure.
As older Han would fittingly say, “I know.”
The Han Solo anthology film does not have a release date yet.
